For this 27th edition, the New Zealanders launch a challenge wanting to strictly return to the original Deed of Gift with a 90-foot monohull. In response the Americans build a catamaran. With two wins to zero, Stars & Stripes wins easily.

The loser

The crew of the gigantic New Zealand monohull is 40 people. Beaten heavily in both races, they contest the American victory in court but lose.
