The winner

Edward Burgess is only 36 years old. In the first race, he refuses a starboard tack at Genesta and is disqualified. But the fair-play British team requests that the race be restarted later. After two more cancellations due to lack of wind, the first race is very close, but Puritan wins. In the second race, it's a duel of tacks, and there are now only two minutes separating the two leaders.

The looser

The English won the public's sympathy with their fair play. Genesta gave the Americans a run for their money and crossed the finish line in the lead several times.
